Adult Drop-In Basketball in Maine: Where and When

Where adults can play pickup basketball in Maine this winter: 52 open gym times from Portland to Houlton, with days, times and costs.

Adult pickup basketball in Maine mostly happens indoors from now until spring, in town rec gyms, YMCAs and college rec centers. AllOutMaine lists 109 places to play basketball in 62 Maine towns, with 52 adult drop-in and open gym times posted. Most cost a few dollars a night, and plenty run on weeknights after work.

Below are the open gyms we know about, grouped by region. Schedules shift with school calendars and seasons, so check with them before you go.

How adult drop-in basketball works in Maine

Most programs fall into one of three setups:

  • Pay per night. You show up, pay a few dollars at the door, and play. Bring cash, and often exact change.
  • Punch card or session fee. Some towns sell a fall/winter session or a 10-visit card instead of single nights.
  • Membership or day pass. YMCAs and college rec centers usually let members play free and sell a day pass to everyone else.

Many runs are split by age (18+, 30+, 40+, 50+) or set aside for women. Pick the one that fits and go. Every level is welcome.
