Pickup Sports in Augusta, Maine: Courts, Open Gyms and Games

Where to play in Augusta, Maine: 13 places, from indoor pickleball and YMCA pick-up basketball to Saturday hockey and ball fields.

Augusta has 13 verified places to play on AllOutMaine, from indoor pickleball and a YMCA gym to an ice rink, ball fields and a paved riverside trail. Four of them have drop-in times listed, so in November you can still find a game most weekdays without booking a court or joining a team.

Here's what's in town, sorted by indoor and outdoor, with the drop-in times we have on file. Hours and prices change, so check with each place before you go.

Indoor: open gyms, courts and ice

Kennebec Valley YMCA

An indoor gym for basketball plus 2 indoor pickleball courts. It has two drop-ins listed:

No cost is listed for either, so ask the front desk about day passes before you go.

A-Copi Tennis & Sports Center

Four indoor courts set up for tennis and pickleball, which makes it a good bet when the wind comes off the river.

Buker Community Center

An indoor gym for basketball and pickleball, plus 3 free outdoor pickleball courts for warmer days. Pickleball at Buker, run by Augusta Parks & Rec, is listed Mon & Fri 8 AM–12 PM at $2 per person.

Augusta Civic Center

Indoor courts that get set up for basketball, pickleball and volleyball. We don't have open play times on file here yet. If you know of one, add it from the app with + → Add drop-in times.

Camden National Bank Ice Vault

An indoor rink for public skating and hockey. Weekend Warrior pick-up hockey is listed Saturdays 7–8 AM. No cost is on file, so check their schedule before you lace up.

1-7-10 Sports Center

Twenty indoor candlepin bowling lanes. Listed hours are Wed–Thu 12–9 PM, Fri 9 AM–10 PM and Sat 12–10 PM. Check before you go, especially on holidays. It's a good pick for a group night when nobody wants to sweat.

Outdoor: courts, fields and trails

Outdoor play in Augusta slows down as the days get short and cold, but these are the spots to know for dry fall afternoons and for spring.

Calumet Park

Two outdoor pickleball courts, an outdoor basketball court and a soccer field that also works for Spikeball and rugby. It's the most mixed-use outdoor spot in town.

Mill Park

One outdoor basketball court. Simple and handy for a quick shootaround.

Capital Area Recreation Complex

The biggest field setup on the list: 2 soccer fields (also used for flag football, Spikeball and rugby), 3 baseball fields and 2 softball fields, with kickball on both. A good place to start a weekend kickball or flag football game once the snow is gone.

Pete Gagne Memorial Sports Complex

Three outdoor baseball fields that also fit softball and kickball.

Augusta Skatepark

An outdoor concrete skatepark, listed as open sunrise to sunset.

Kennebec River Rail Trail

A paved multi-use trail for running, walking and biking. Easy to use for a group run any time of year if you dress for it.

Viles Arboretum

Trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Keep it in mind once there's enough snow on the ground.
