Where to Play Pickleball in Portland, Maine
Portland's 10 pickleball spots: free outdoor courts at Deering Oaks and the Eastern Prom, plus indoor courts and YMCA open play for winter.
Portland has 10 verified places to play pickleball on AllOutMaine. Six are outdoor courts, most of them free, from Deering Oaks Park to the Eastern Promenade. The other four are indoor, from 3 courts at USM to 18 at Pickleball Maine. There's also an open pickleball time at the Greater Portland YMCA. In November that indoor list matters a lot, so it comes first below.
Indoor pickleball in Portland
Once it gets cold and dark at 4:30, most Portland pickleball moves inside. These are the indoor options in our listings.
Pickleball Maine
The biggest indoor setup in town: 18 indoor pickleball courts. If you want to keep playing all winter, start here. Our listing doesn't have hours or prices yet, so check with them before you go.
Apex Racket and Fitness
9 indoor pickleball courts. Apex also runs a men's 60+ tennis round robin, listed here (Tue & Fri, 10:30 AM–12 PM). It's tennis, not pickleball, but it tells you the place runs regular group play. Ask them how pickleball court time works.
Riverton Community Center
6 indoor pickleball courts plus a basketball gym. The gym also hosts adult drop-in basketball on Tuesdays 7–9 PM and adult drop-in futsal on Wednesdays 7–9 PM, both priced lower for Portland residents than for non-residents. If you play more than one sport, this is a good building to know.
USM Sullivan Complex
3 indoor pickleball courts and a gym on the University of Southern Maine campus. Access to campus facilities can depend on the time of year, so check with USM before you go.
Open pickleball at the Greater Portland YMCA
The Y lists pickleball in the gymnasium on Mon, Wed and Thu 10–11:30 AM and Sat 10 AM–12 PM. It's a good choice for daytime players. The listing doesn't say what it costs or whether you need a membership, so ask first.
Outdoor pickleball courts in Portland
Portland's outdoor courts are mostly free and mostly shared with tennis. In late fall, nets can come down and courts can get wet, icy or leaf-covered, so check before you go. On a dry, sunny afternoon, though, a few more weeks of outdoor play is very doable.
Deering Oaks Park
8 tennis/pickleball courts, outdoor and free. It's the largest outdoor set in our Portland listings. The park also has a sand volleyball court, a baseball field and a multi-use field, and the pond is used for skating when it freezes.
Eastern Promenade Courts
6 tennis/pickleball courts, outdoor and free. The Prom also has a steep sledding hill with Casco Bay views, so there's still a reason to come back after the courts close for winter.
Deering High School
4 tennis/pickleball courts, outdoor and free. As with most school courts, school use may come first during the day.
Payson Park
4 tennis courts, outdoor and free. Our listing marks them for pickleball too, so bring your own net or check what's set up. In winter, Payson has a seasonal outdoor ice rink and a sledding hill with snowmaking.
Lyman Moore Middle School
3 outdoor pickleball courts, free, plus an outdoor basketball court.
Steven's Square Courts
3 outdoor pickleball courts. Our listing doesn't say yet whether there's a fee, so check before you go.
